Our approach
AustraliaFans is built to need as little of your data as possible. The whole directory can be browsed without an account, and the only personal information we ever hold is what you choose to send us yourself. We handle that information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
Data we collect automatically
Browsing the site also records a page view. That record contains a random visitor ID stored in your browser's local storage (not a cookie), the page address, the site that referred you, your browser's user-agent string, any campaign parameters in the link you arrived through, and the country our CDN derives from your IP address. We use it to see which pages and profiles people find useful. It is never sold and never used to build advertising profiles.
What we collect
When you use the Contact or Add profile forms we receive what you type in — typically a name or alias, an email address and the content of your message or listing. Browsing itself requires no registration and no personal details.
Why we use it
Form data is used solely to answer your enquiry or to review, publish and manage your directory listing. We do not sell personal information, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not disclose it to third parties for their own purposes.
Cookies and the age gate
The site uses strictly necessary cookies and local storage — chiefly to remember that you have confirmed you are 18 or over — plus basic, aggregated visit statistics. You can clear or block these at any time in your browser settings.
Overseas storage
The site is served from global infrastructure, so form submissions may be stored on servers outside Australia. We keep the data minimal precisely so that this carries as little risk as possible.
Retention
Enquiry messages are kept only as long as needed to deal with them. Data connected to a live listing is kept while the listing remains published and deleted after removal, unless a legal obligation requires longer retention.
Access, correction and complaints
You may ask at any time what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it — send the request through the contact form and we will respond within 30 days. If you believe we have mishandled your information, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC); we would appreciate the chance to resolve the matter directly first.
